What does Baptism mean to people?
Sarah Gritton was recently baptised at St Nicolas together with her daughter Elle-Mae. Here she writes about what baptism means to her and her family
I was baptised at the age of 22 when my daughter Elle-Mae was baptised at the age of 3 months.
I don't come from a very religious background but had always wondered what it would be like to attend church, but never had anyone to go with.
When my dauhter was born, I suddenly had a different outlook on life. I wanted my daughter and myself and my husband to be protected forever.
Although I was a bit apprehensive about baptism, I was also adamant that I wanted Elle baptised, and I was going through a tough time and wanted to turn to someone, so I turned to God and decided to be baptised myself.
I made the promises to God in front of 30 people and it was such a special day. I felt so different afterwards, like I was not on my own anymore, and that I had God to turn to.
I now attend church every Sunday and I am invovled in various activities within the church. God has helped me through the tough times and my new found faith has totally changed me for the better.
BAPTISM IS SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE!
