Parish Communion at the Parish Church of St Nicolas, Witham, in accordance with Covid-19 advice

The Church of England offers detailed advice to enable Holy Communion to be celebrated in a safe and appropriate way in church buildings.  In addition to general advice on not attending if you have any symptoms of Covid-19, or should be self-isolating or in quarantine, and together with our parish risk assessment this means:

·        Giving contact details for Track and Trace purposes

·        Following signs, one way markings and other instructions in the church building

·        Maintain a social distance of 2m from others not in your household or support bubble

·        Wearing a face covering which covers your nose and mouth.  This may be removed for reading, preaching or leading prayers, and then replaced.

·        The Peace may not be shared by physical contact

·        The priest presiding at the service will follow the recommended safeguards to maintain hygiene.  This means there will be no offertory procession, and only the host and wine to be consumed by the priest will be uncovered during the Eucharistic Prayer.  Holy Communion will be distributed in one kind only.  The wafers to be distributed will be kept in a covered ciborium until distribution.

·        Holy Communion will be received standing.  Please form a socially distanced queue as directed by our churchwardens and welcomers.  The distribution will be in silence.

·        Holy Communion should only be received into the hand, with arms extended, avoiding any touch between the priest and the communicant, and while wearing a face covering.  Please then step aside, lower or unloop your face covering, consume the consecrated bread, and then replace the face covering before moving back to your place following directional guidance.

·        At the end of the service, please do not remove your laminated service sheet , or hand it to others, but leave in your place to be sanitised before reuse, then leave quietly via the Lady Chapel door, maintaining social distance.

Thank you
